It was Sunday and Monday was a holiday - a perfect time for our weekend getaway and this time in Samboan Cebu. A four hour bus ride from South Bus Terminal going Cebu South. Samboan is known for its beautiful wonders in nature and protected marine resources. Samboan also offers various heritage sites; the splendors of the past.
We rented an AC room good for 10 persons for 2,000 pesos with bathroom and a common kitchen at Villa Isabella in Brgy. Ponong, Samboan. This pink abode had a great view of TaΓ±on Straight and Negros Island.
We hopped into adventure right after we settled and ate our lunch. We already contracted habal-habal driver for 250 pesos per head who greeted us when we arrived at 8:45 Sunday morning - all in for 3 falls (Da-o falls, Hidden falls and Aguinid Falls) and waiting time.
going to Da-o falls |
Da-o Falls
Brgy. Suba is where Da-o Falls located. After paying 20 pesos entrance fee/environmental fee, we took +/-30 mins trek going to innards of unchanged habitat where Da-o Falls situated.
We traversed the river through hanging bridge made in bamboo. For 15 mins walking, we already inside the river canyons.
One has to be careful in walking the slippery and narrow walkway along riverside. A steep part of passage which is few meters away from the falls requires careful set down of one's foot in order not to lose your balance and miss your footing.
We were so excited seeing Da-o falls few meters away. Our heart beats and singing the sounds of the water drops.
Da-o falls in some way look like a dam and it is the highest of all the water falls in Samboan. The clear and cool water pool below was not deep. We were enjoying few minutes dipping in the catch basin and took our mandatory pictures and groupies.
Hidden Falls (Binalayan Falls)
We proceeded to Brgy Bonbon for our 2nd falls destination - the Hidden falls. Another 20 pesos as entrance fee. A 20-min walk required us to reach the place.
The current was not that strong and the catch basin was somehow deep compared to Da-o falls. Some locals and visitors named this as Three Drop Falls because of its uniquely three separate water drops.
Aguinid Falls
Because it was already past 3pm, we immediately hurry back to our waiting habal-habal for another one last falls. The driver told us that 5pm is the cut-off time for all waterfalls beyond that they will not allow any visitors to enter. Just a 10 min drive going to Brgy Tangbo where the jump-off area and paying another 20 pesos as entrance fee. You may leave your bag and belongings in the booth they provide.
Aguinid falls made up of 5 rows of different unique level of waterfalls. In level two, we needed to climb a big limestone walls and they made footholds on the rock for an easy scaling up the wall. The rock is not slippery but just be cautious to avoid potential injury.
Going up was easy but going down here was challenging. In Aguinid falls you can taste a bit of Canyoneering Experience if you haven't tried doing it.
We had enough fun and finished just in time before twilight and made our way down.
We definitely enjoy the three waterfalls and had wonderful time staying in Samboan. I will have another post for other aspect of interest which Samboan has to offer.
So long. Cheers for your adventure!
